Larry Deckel – Handson Connect Training and Support Manager
See you there!

An astounding one million people searched, found, and committed to serve their community in response to Disney’s “Give a Day. Get a Disney Day.” Troutco was part of the HandsOn Network technology team working with Disney to provide solutions and support connecting a million volunteers to the community needs met by nonprofits across America, Canada, and Puerto Rico.
Troutco applauds Disney, the HandsOn Network, and the million volunteers who served and will now celebrate at DisneyParks.
Thanks to everyone who participated, and hope all my friends and colleagues will continue to volunteer year-round!

Troutco is pleased to announce that volunteer recruitment and online sign-up are now available for L.A.’s fifteenth annual “Los Angeles Times Festival of Books.”
Larry Deckel, and his consulting firm of Troutco have proudly served as Volunteer Coordinator for the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books for thirteen consecutive years! We’re looking forward to having our many loyal volunteers join us once again for the largest and most successful celebration of the written word in the United States, held on the campus of UCLA in Westwood, California.
Last year over 130,000 people attended the Festival, which featured almost one hundred ticketed author events, children’s storytelling, poetry readings, book signings and nearly 500 exhibitor booths. The Festival’s success has been due in part to the generous assistance of volunteers who welcomed attendees, assisted with registration, staffed author events, supervised book signings and much more.
To sign up as a volunteer for this year’s Festival — please visit the volunteer sign-up page at www.troutco.com/fob/
Looking forward to your joining us this year as a volunteer for this terrific and fun community event.
If you can’t volunteer — mark your calendar! This event is free and worth attending – no matter how far away you live.

Troutco is thrilled to announce the full launch of the new UCLA Volunteer Center.
Troutco director Larry Deckel has been working for nearly a year with David Bloome, Campaign Director of the newly launched UCLA Volunteer Center, on his quest to build “a community of heroes” at UCLA.
The result of this campaign includes a state-of-the-art, dynamic website, rich with videos, real-time photo publishing, dynamic content updated on every visit, volunteer journals, feeds, tweets, and all manner of information connecting UCLA students, faculty, alumni, and the community at large to the power of volunteerism.
The campus has been completely energized, manifesting itself today with UCLA’s first Volunteer Day event, where an army of nearly 5,000 students at 26 different project sites are producing amazing impact: Documented in real-time via photos, videos, and journals from the volunteers themselves, who are discovering what it’s like being a hero in your community. Check out the MapRoom to see the breadth of the work accomplished in this phenomenal day of change!
Kudos and congrats to everyone on the development team, and a tip of the hat to the inspirational David Bloome whose vision underlies everything! And UCLA students — you rock!!!
Find out the latest stats on Volunteering in America. This terrific site features detailed multi-year information on volunteering trends and demographics in all 50 states, U.S. regions and several cities, and it ranks states and large and mid-size cities on volunteer rates.
The Web site allows users to explore the information in great detail and pull data from specific cities. The report is based on research and thousands of surveys from the U.S. Census and the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It was just updated this week with data from 2008 surveys. See how your city rates! (And don’t forget to volunteer!)
Hope to visit with many of you at this year’s National Conference on Volunteering & Service! I’ll be available for individual consults for HandsOn Tech users or others interesting in volunteering matching technologies in the HandsOn Action Center Lounge – Moscone Center West – Room 3B1 from June 21 – June 24.
Conference is promising to be very exciting with lots of big news about the rapidly expanding volunteer movement and the technology that supports it. (Hmmm, that sounds just a little grandiose doesn’t it?
Email hothelp@handsonnetwork.org to request an appointment time. Schedule to follow. Conference news via twitter tag #NCVS. Tweets to HOT Help with technology news, syndication and other volunteer tech topics welcome @troutco.
If you don’t need help or have questions – just drop by and say Hi anyway!
